This grant-funded position is temporary from January 2013 until September 2015, and will work 50% of time and is exempt from overtime. The salary for this position is $26,000 annually.
Because of the financial challenges the State of Washington has been facing, all employees will take a one year 3% cut on salaries effective July 1, 2012 through June 29, 2013.

The Bellevue College Life Science Informatics Center is a project group currently implementing three health information technology federal grants. As part of the Bellevue College Economic and Workforce Development organization, the primary goal of the Life Science Informatics Center is to create industry-relevant learning for new, incumbent, and displaced workforce in the field of health IT. The Center works with industry to develop health IT academic resources and employment opportunities for community and technical colleges and their high school partners.
The Health e-Workforce Consortium Student Navigator will assist grant-funded participants, primarily dislocated and working adults and veterans, in their pursuit of post-secondary certificates and degrees in health information technology. Navigational coaching will include a full range of career support services, college transition services, counseling, and referral services to these students, in support of their academic attainment and grant goals.
Essential Functions/Typical Duties:
Direct Services to Students
The Navigator will be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of an approach that allows for ongoing contact with students that helps them access needed academic, financial and social support, and successfully complete training. Including:
Promote awareness of health IT training programs among veteran groups and TAA-eligible populations.
In concert with Program Manager, develop a strategic student recruitment plan.
Offer on-campus office hours for individual student check-ins and regular meetings with groups or student cohorts.
Assess students academic and personal needs and barriers in order to determine appropriate support services.
Develop resources for students that increase their success in education and training.
Refer students to on-and off-campus services and resources as appropriate.
Work with each student to establish short- and long-term goals as well and identify potential barriers to academic success.
Meet with individual students at regularly scheduled times, and as specific situations arise, to assess needs, and provide support, encouragement, and resources.
Monitor student academic performance and provide support and assistance where needed.
Where appropriate, connect with faculty to facilitate student academic success.
Provide a full suite of career development services: career development planning, identification of prospective employers, resume and cover letter development, creation of a social media presence that attracts employers.
In concert with the employment specialist, work with employers to develop internship opportunities for students/graduates.
Prepare for and participate in Consortium meetings & virtual community
Document and share best practices
Track student academic progress and employment-related and other services provided; generate scheduled reports on time.
Perform related duties as required.
Experience in employee recruitment or adult career services
Experience in higher education, counseling, or transitional services for adults
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Proficiency with web communication tools, social and Microsoft Office Suite
Masters degree in counseling or related field
Experience providing transition or employment services to veterans
Specific Position Requirements:
Ability to travel in Washington, possibly overnight, infrequently
Valid drivers license
Willingness to work some evenings and early mornings
